The T.H. Mitchell House . Sarasota, Florida.
An original Seibert design dating back to the 60’s, recent work focused largely on recreating the missing overhead grillage in the entry courtyard. The vertical and horizontal grillage that defined the entry courtyard and the bedroom courtyard were an important part of this house. Besides affording privacy and defining these spaces, the grillage provides an ever-changing display of light and shadow patterns. Restoring the grillage in the courtyards brought the delight back to this house.
Vertical and horizontal grillage in the secondary bedroom courtyard was also restored to its original design. As part of the restoration, a number of flush exterior doors were reconstructed, the sliding glass doors were repaired, the garage door was replaced, a new roof was installed, new electrical panels were installed, new pool equipment was installed, new window treatments were installed, the terrazzo floors were refinished, and several built-in cabinets were added.
