Lido Shores Pavilion . Lido Key, Florida.
Nestled into the natural landscape, this project is situated on property owned by the Lido Shores neighborhood association. The neighborhood was originally developed in the 1950’s as a modernist enclave and included numerous residences designed by architects of note.
The beach pavilion serves as a community gathering space capable of seating up to 30 residents comfortably. The open floor area in the center provides flexibility and allows space for tables or additional seating as may be needed on rare occasions. On a day to day basis the pavilion offers residents a base for beachfront activities and a gathering place to watch the sunset or simply enjoy the natural setting.
The pavilion is designed to resist the harsh conditions found in coastal areas while respecting and responding to the fragile beach and dune ecosystem. Structurally, the pavilion is designed to be built by hand using only materials that can be hand carried to the site. Aesthetically, it is designed to appear impermanent, with connections that appear simple and tenuous.
