Inn on the Beach Lagoon. Longboat Key, Florida.

Hugging a bayside lagoon on a barrier island along the Gulf Coast, the Lagoon Units at the Inn on the Beach is reminiscent of a Caribbean paradise.  The design for this 34 unit condominium resort hotel is based on an indigenous architectural style evocative of other times and far away places.  Stepped roofs, deep overhangs and continuous balconies combine to form an aesthetic vernacular statement sympathetic to environmental and climatic conditions. Because of the resort nature of the island, the design solution was to place the visitor in a truly casual, romantic atmosphere far away from the rigidity of day to day life.
