The Gorski House . Boca Grande, Florida.

This house was designed to capture the extensive views of the natural environment afforded by the site and provide a place of casual elegance for the owners and visiting children and grandchildren. The guest quarters function independently from the main house.

The house was designed as an open pavilion with expansive views of the water and the mangrove preserve. Internal spaces are organized around the central volume flowing freely from area to area. Openings are aligned through the house so that spaciousness is not curtailed, and openness is at the end of all paths. Diffused light fills every space and spills into the central volume through the folded roof form from all directions.

The house carefully balances openness and clearly defined spaces, using architectural features to define boundaries. Structural dynamics are expressed with column and beam forms and sheathed roof girders.

The home’s interior was also designed by the firm as a compliment to the architecture by accentuating the dramatic vistas looking out toward the water.
