Far Horizons Resort . Longboat Key, Florida.
The elite hotel-restaurant on Longboat Key featured an undulating butterfly roof along the Gulf of Mexico. In 1957 the newspaper commented, βThe architect made full use of new ideas in flaring angles to design a most striking building, using a black and white theme throughout, with a bit of coral color showing here and there.β
Edward J. "Tim" Seibert had just opened his own office at 231 S. Palm Avenue in Sarasota in 1956 after working for Philip Hiss on Lido Shores. Seibert's father, E.C. Seibert, also played a key role as an engineer and associate in the firm, contributing to the creation of this and other architectural gems. Ultimately, the resort was demolished in the 1980s.
